Ms. Jo-Anne Stuart is available to assist students with career information every lunchtime and by appointment in the Careers Room.
Careers Resources
Careers NZ is a page that provides information about different career pathways. There are tools to help with subject choice, CV and Cover Letter writing, and skills matching. There is also information about training and education.
The Youth Guarantee website provides information about the six vocational pathways: Creative, Primary, Service, Social and Community Services, Construction and Infrastructure, and, Manufacturing and Technology Industries.
All students need to be able to access their Learner Login for NZQA. They will need to ensure they can log in to check exam entries and results. From there, students can create their Record of Achievement (ROA) which is often requested when applying for courses, scholarships and accommodation.
Each year the new cohort of Year 13 students is invited to join the Year 13 Careers Google Classroom. Students can ask their mentor teacher or Ms Stuart for an invitation.
StudyLink Information for Leavers
Students thinking about further study after they leave school have a lot of decisions to make.
StudyLink provides information about Student Loans. Students and whanau need to use this website to find out about student loans to cover fees and to confirm eligibility for student allowance or living cost loans. Some students will also qualify for an accommodation subsidy. The Studylink website has the application process and eligibility tools to help whanau through this process.
StudyLink’s website is a great place to visit to get you thinking about what it will cost to live and study. StudyLink can help you work out if study is right for you and how you will support yourself. How much money you may need to support yourself could surprise you.
Once you have made the decision to study it is a good idea to sign up to receive emails from StudyLink. This way you won’t miss out on important information, like when to apply and documents you need to send.

School Leavers
The School Leavers’ Toolbox provides information to help your people as they leave school and move on to tertiary study, employment and training.
The Leaving School magazine is published quarterly and provides up-to-date articles about various career pathways and training options. There are often articles to help with Curriculum vitae and Applying for jobs.
Careers Websites
Scholarship Information:
Scholarships and Grants are available for students to assist with their study costs. Students will apply for the scholarships and grants that apply to their course of study. Most tertiary education providers will have some scholarships available to first-year students. There will be others available as you continue to study. A list of available scholarships, some specific to Whakatāne High School, is available through the Year 13 Careers Google Classroom.
Grants are often available from Iwi and Trust Boards. Students need to register with their Iwi and Trust Boards to ensure they have the best chance of being offered financial assistance.
Money Hub is a website that provides readers with up-to-date scholarship information along with more about other money topics.
