Margaret Mahy library at Whakatāne High School supports students in their learning across all curriculum areas by providing printed and digital resources that are appropriate to their needs, interests and abilities.
Our library catalogue Access-It is available to students 24/7 through the WHS.CO.NZ Bookmarks, library catalogue. The One search feature in Accessit allows students access to over 7,000 curated websites and electronic documents which are in addition to the print collection.
The library also promotes the value of reading for pleasure, we provide a wide range of resources, information, activities and support for students and teachers. We host visiting speakers to students and staff.
Our library is the heart of the school where students learn, read, access information and technology, play chess and card games in a safe environment. Our mission is to provide quality resources and information support services for the school community, and to develop life-long learning skills and foster recreational reading. The library currently maintains a large fiction collection which is intended to appeal to a diverse range of readers.

Copying / Printing The library has one colour photocopier / printer which is available for staff and student use
Iti Pounamu Homework Club is run after school in the library on Wednesday afternoon from 3.15 – 4.30. Afternoon tea is provided in the staff room for students who are attending from 3.00 – 3.15
