Prefect Mission Statement

The Whakatāne High School Prefects aim to create a positive and inclusive school culture to encourage students to make the most of their schooling experience. The Prefects provide opportunities and support for our students, inspiring them to strive for personal excellence and to enable them to reach their full potential at Whakatāne High School.

Whakatāne High School Prefects demonstrate and role model the school values to all our students. As leaders in our school, the Prefect team help other students develop and maximise their potential when relating to and interacting with others, working together for a common goal. This leadership contributes to making our school a happy and safe place to be.

The Prefect group develop and lead many initiatives within the school including: Mufti Days, ANZAC Assemblies, inter-house competitions, presenting a weekly school roundup on Radio 1XX, talking at school assemblies and promoting our school through different social media sites.

In Term 1 the main role is to mentor the Year 9 students and help them settle into high school life. Prefects split themselves across Whakatāne High School’s Year 9 classes as Buddy Prefects. This initiative ensures that Year 9 students are well supported during their transition to our school and are encouraged to get involved in House spirit, Big Day Out, Athletics Day, Swimming Sports and Cross Country.
