Student Life
Each mentor group belongs to one of four houses;
- Matai (blue)
- Kauri (yellow)
- Rimu (green)
- Totara (red)
Houses are assigned to students during the enrolment process and announced during orientation. Each house is led by a member of the Senior Leadership Team who runs house assemblies with the help of the Sport and House Prefect, and the Year 12 House Leaders. These Prefects and Year 12 Leaders work together to co-ordinate the inter-house activities in which there is lively competition for house points. These include sporting competitions, musical and cultural events and academic quizzes. The winning house is presented with a shield at the end of the year.
At Whakatāne High School we have a number of clubs and extra-curricular activities run by our staff during lunchtime or after school. These activities cover a broad range of interests meaning that there’s something for everyone. Whether you enjoy playing chess or love a good game of cards, or would prefer to be outside in the sunshine on your bike or in the surf, we have it all!
