WHS Volunteer and Sports Awards Dinner
The Whakatāne High School Sports Volunteer and Sports Awards Dinner has been going for over 25 years and is an event that celebrates sporting achievement throughout the year.
This dinner allows the school to acknowledge all of our sports volunteers who have coached, managed or officiated sport over the year. The school is very grateful to all the staff and community members that given up their time to for our students and these volunteers are a big reason for the success of sport within our school.
Students receive sporting honours for achieving top three placings at national competitions, making NZ representative teams or representing a Premier Sports team at a high level over three years.
The following premier sports awards are also given out:
- Contribution to Sport
- Coach/Manager of the Year
- Team of the Year
- Sportsman of the Year
- Sportswoman of the Year
All attendees are provided with a fine dining experience and are entertained by some inspirational presentations from the guest speakers. Guest Speakers over the years have been a mix of current and former athletes who achieved success at a national or international level, including our very own WHS Alumni, Stacey Waaka and Lisa Carrington.
